The packaging industry ... a performance!
The packaging industry generates worldwide sales in excess of 575 billion US dollars, 60% of which comes from the food industry. There are considerable differences between countries, and more concretely, 75% of all packaging produced is consumed by 20% of the population. Packaging is one of the world's top 10 industrial sectors. The food processing industry is the most packaging-intensive sector. For packaging manufacturers, this is a very important sector (60%), followed by the health and pharmaceuticals sector (11%) and the cosmetics, hygiene and perfumery industry (10%). Printed folding cartons, labels & corrugated boxes are by far the most common items to be found on the shelves, but beyond its appearance we must understand & see that packaging fulfils important functions: it protects, preserves, transports the product, offers easy storage, provides information about the contents and its use. Over the past 20 years, sales of packaging (folding cartons, labels and corrugated boxes) have grown by an average of 8.7% a year. This sector of the economy has adapted year after year to grow and become an industry where designers and printers work together for the benefit of their industrial customers and consumers.Source:http://www.rungisinternational.com/fr/bleu/enquetesrungisactu/Emballagealimentaire642.asp
